Hurricane Harvey and Irma Update

We are so grateful to all of you who are interested in adopting animals rescued from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. We have a higher volume of visitors, calls and emails and apologize for any delayed response in getting back to you. As animals are available they will be posted on our website. Harvey and Irma animals also have designated tags on kennels and cages. Please follow us on Facebook for updates.

CASPCA to Aid in Hurricane Irma Relief Efforts

In response to the anticipated devastation expected by Hurricane Irma, the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA partnered with Best Friends Animals Society to evacuate Lifeline Animal Project, Atlanta’s local pound. A team of four staff members have safely transported 45 existing animals in Lifeline Animal Project’s pound (with the CASPCA’s Compassionate Care-A-Van and Cargo Van) back to the CASPCA to make room for displaced animals from Hurricane Irma. These animals were already in the pound and without homes prior to the storm. With these efforts, the CASPCA has freed up space for Lifeline Animal Project to house displaced animals from Irma once the storm hits. Upon their return, all animals will be thoroughly examined by our veterinary team and once cleared, made available for adoption.

We thank YOU for your continued support of the CASPCA. Because of you, we are able to assist in rescue efforts and continue to help save abandoned animals. We are so thankful to our community, volunteers,  supporters, adopters and donors that continue to support our life-saving efforts.

CASPCA to Aid in Hurricane Harvey Animal Relief Efforts

In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, a team of four staff members from the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA will be traveling to BARC, the City of Houston’s only municipal shelter, to transport displaced and abandoned animals back to the CASPCA for veterinary care and adoption.

To make space for the homeless animals we’re transferring in from Houston, we are having a “Clear the Shelter” adoption event this Saturday, September 2nd through Monday September 4th. All adoption fees will be waived.

During this time, we will have a higher demand for resources, and in addition to monetary assistance, welcome your donation of towels, newspapers, laundry detergent, and yoga mats. We are also collecting donations of pet food and supplies for the animals at the BARC animal shelter that we will deliver upon arrival.
